Market Street Parking Garage Downtown Mall Charlottesville, Virginia A downtown parking garage renovation involves adding retail spaces that are open to the Charlottesville pedestrian mall and a facade structure that incorporates lighting and a storefront canopy. This design creates a compelling background at the end of an urban corridor that is often used for public events in the evening. The luminaries are large plates of translucent glass under-lit and held by a steel frame and cable assembly. This area will become a beacon from vantage points further down the mall and a recognizable location for pedestrians. The canopy is a linear element that has integral lighting at the storefronts below and linear pinpoint lighting above. By adding interest and promoting activity in this area we hope to enliven the urban fabric of the mall and visually connect this area to other downtown attractions, such as the nearby outdoor amphitheater and the city hall facility.
