Hillel Center for Jewish Life at the University of Virginia has selected brwarchitects to design an addition to their existing facilities on University Circle in Charlottesville, Virginia. The addition will double the size of the existing early twentieth century house which has served Hillel since 1942. New facilities will include a multipurpose worship space, a dining/banquet facility, study spaces, extensive gardens, and new administrative offices. The new addition to the existing house is in one of the most sensitive neighborhoods surrounding the University and collaboration with the neighborhood association will be an important part of the design process. The design will use as a point of departure the precedents of the existing house while communicating the goal of providing support to the entire Jewish community at the University. |
