Brubaker Residence
Waynesboro, Virginia The success of this residence is obtained through modifying the traditional two-over-two house plan used in Virginia homes of the 18th and 19th centuries. This allows the masssing of the house to relate to the scale of the neighborhood and provides a modest and friendly initial impression. Consistent with this architectural precedent, the informal rooms are oriented to the views of the Shenandoah Valley and Allegheny mountains beyond. Careful attention was given to finishes and furnishings to ensure a quality of interior aesthetics consistent with the architectural design. Custom mantel and hearth designs of slate, marble, and wood provide focal points throughout the residence. The entry hall features a six-foot square inlaid in the wood floor. The kitchen features locally-produced wall accent tiles abstracted from the client's dishware pattern. download project as .pdf
