The Druid Hill Residences are located on the side of a hill along the edge of Charlottesville's Belmont neighborhood. The landscape design reflects the tension between the public function of the building along the edge of the street and the private requirements for each individual unit. The final grading and planting design defines the edge of the public domain and sidewalk while providing each unit with an individualized private garden. The unit design varies with each location . However, the consistent theme of each unit is providing the maximum amount of natural light and connection to the landscape beyond. On the east and south large windows provide direct views to Monticello and Brown's mountain. To the west each unit responds to the more urban character of the street.
