Fayerweather Hall Exterior Renovations University of Virginia Department of Art Charlottesville, Virginia Fayerweather Hall had deteriorated to the point where interior spaces were in danger of sustaining significant damage. The entire exterior was restored to the original condition. This work involved replacement of the existing slate roof, restoration of the cornice and frieze around the entire building, structural repairs to the lateral pavilions, and restoration of the main portico. Detailing the restoration involved researching and finding the original manufacturers of the pre ssed tin dentils, hand carving a number of components of the frieze, and changing some of the detail work to provide for better preservation in the future. Fayerweather Hall serves the Department of Art and was continuously occupied during the restoration work. download project as .pdf
