Hospice of the Piedmont Charlottesville, Virginia Under Construction In an effort to offer a comfortable home-like setting for their clients' final days, Hospice of the Piedmont purchased and initiated the renovation of 501 Park Street in the historic North Downtown neighborhood of Charlottesville. The program included the conversion of an existing twenty-two bed nursing home to a more intimate eight bed Hospice House. Support services and public areas were focused on providing care to both the residents and their families, with an effort toward preserving the residential character and details of the existing turn of the century Victorian dwelling. The design team focused on identifying areas within the Hospice House that would provide opportunities for both family gathering and individual reflection. Refurbishment of the existing porch, entry hall, parlor, and dining room were completed by the careful addition of an elevator, egress stair, consultation areas, business office, resident lounge, meditation area, and overnight rooms for immediate family members. In effort to provide comfort and dignity to the residents during their stay, the future Hospice House will combine the best qualities of traditional home with the modern support of Hospice care.download project as .pdf
