University of Virginia Information Technology & Communication Building Renovation Charlottesville, Virginia Completed Spring 2004 Consolidation was the goal that led the University to utilize this 60's era 4-story office building which was in a state of disrepair and in need of major renovation. Working closely with the client, brwarchitects provided space planning and interior design to organize several departments into functionally appropriate adjacencies for maximum productivity and effectiveness. New building systems were installed, bringing this antiquated building up to modern standards. Color and pattern were used in floor finishes to de-emphasize long narrow corridors and as a means for way-finding to elevator and stairwell locations. A fresh color scheme and new finish materials replaced dated ones throughout the building, and the lobby was transformed through the use of maple paneling and corrugated aluminum accents, reflecting the high-tech image of the department. The building's revitalized image and restored functionality are evidence of the project's success and greatly exceeded the client's expectations. before after download project as .pdf
